From March this year, A Night With…has brought a highlight to nearly every month, opening the season with one of the pinnacles of Chicago House Music’s ‘90s Wave Derrick Carter, who took us on a musical marathon and an education. A hat trick of the world’s leading female talent in electronic music followed with Ellen Allien, Heidi and Magda bringing their goddess-like skills to the series. October welcomed one half of the German deep house goliaths Ali Tiefschwarz, demonstrating why the duo are one of the most innovative production outfits currently on the scene. As we now look to the end of the year, we present the final name to complete the 2011 series,  Matthew Dear.

Its about time we got a full eights hours of un-divided attention from the eminent Matthew Dear who plays the last show of the year in December. The Texas native is a minimalist´s dream artist. Influenced by the likes of Brian Eno, the Talking Heads, Nitzer Ebb and the omnipresent David Bowie, Dear as a DJ, producer and performer errs toward a far more progressive minimalist style than most. His classic Detroit techno influences edge him towards a heavier floor feel and is famed for his tracks recorded not just under his given name, but also as Audion, False and Jabberjaw, as well as touring band Matthew Dear and the Big Hands.

He has earned his international status over the course of a decade, getting his bearings on the DJ decks as a teenager to flooring sold-out crowds at venues such as Fabric, and releasing critically acclaimed original productions. When Dear issued his pop-infused debut album Leave Luck to Heaven it was praised widely as a seminal fusion of pop and minimal. Having coerced techno into its glitchy revolution, helped build up the Ghostly and Spectral to be world class record labels whilst firing out crucial if stripped back 12” records, he’s been more recently found quietly adding wonky pop star to his list of dexterous credentials.  He is arguably one of the more artful DJs of the genre and an all around phenomenal musician.

It’s been quite a year all round for A Night With…and is leaving 2011 with something special.
