SMD release new single, and announce first releases on Delicacies to feature other acts. Returning with another instrumental techno 12", Simian Mobile Disco offer up the fifth release on their own label, Delicacies, entitled ‘Gizzard’
Named after the specialised second stomach in birds, and eaten the world over, the single is part of a collaborative pair of releases with Irish producers, Psycatron (Planet E, Tronic). Psycatron here remixing ´Gizzard´ and in return the forthcoming release, DELI006, will feature a brand new Psycatron track, backed with a remix from SMD.
This is the first time Delicacies has put out material by other artists. “We´re planning to expand Delicacies to include the occasional collaboration and tracks by other artists. We´re big fans of Psycatron, having DJed all over with them, so we´re very excited to have them on board as our first guests on the label, remixing Gizzard" explains James Ford.
The sound of ‘Gizzard’ represents the results of sonic experiments, conducted under the influences of experimental serotonin agonist EMD-386,088, which primarily induces auditory disturbances. The churning analogue synths and percussive ripples created the sensation in listeners that they possessed a gizzard themselves, grinding the fibres of their last meal to pulp with the rolling motion of ghostly gastroliths, sliding over each other in their phantom second stomachs.
Psycatron´s remix with it´s rolling bassline, transports the listener from a generic gizzard, to that of a particular species of earthworm – Megascolides Aaustralis, the giant Australian earthworm, to be precise.
Finally, pushing the boundaries of both scientific ethics and good taste, SMD´s own "Version 2" mix was found to induce the sensation of actually being a gizzard. The ontological confusion and fear resulted in a variety of unpleasant dance floor "accidents" even among seasoned subjects. Use with caution.
Gizzard is out now on limited 12" vinyl, with digital everywhere on the 25th of July.
