There’s evil abroad in the world of dance music and the Wolf + Lamb/Soul Clap Justice League is the last line of defence. This coalition of glitterball superheroes and 4AM villains has come together to fight the forces of too dark, too loud dance music. The League’s mission statement: “We want to bring the sexiness back to the dancefloor.”
And boy do they do that. Just ahead of their collective sound defining DJ Kicks mix packed with exclusive and original material and out at the end of March, the foursome have selected two special tracks for radio edit to help quell the suspense. Says Eli of Soul Clap: “The two singles we are the most excited about are ‘Lonely C’ by Soul Clap featuring Charles Levine. It’s a special vocal track, really deep, but still catchy and emotional. There’s also this one by SECT called In The Park with vocals from Ben Westbeech. It’s a really floaty slow track with an incredible pop feel.” ‘Lonely C’ is also the centre of a special video contest to create the next visual assault from this camp of inventive artists.
SECT, for those uninitiated – are label homeboys Charles Levine and Eli Goldstein of Soul Clap, Tanner Ross and Sergio Santos, who came together late one night in the catacombs of Eli’s parents basement to channel the magic of their combined sounds and create something larger than life. Ben Westbeech is the English producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist known for his soulful garage vocals and currently making an impact across the breadth of the electronic scene with a new album about to drop on Strictly Rhythm.
As a taster of what is to come from the full-length mix spanning sultry downtempo grooves, slinky disco and soulful pop, the message is still clear with these two leading singles. As Zev of Wolf + Lamb explains it “Doing the mix we realised that our vibe has something to do with emotion and I think it has something to do with tempo. The music that comes from our camp is slower than a lot of other dance music.” ‘Lonely C’ and ‘In The Park’ perfectly encapusulate the Wolf + Lamb vs. Soul Clap mission to showcase their original and genre defining sound for a new era of North American dance music.
