Rising star Hugo Barritt teams up with the legendary Robert Owens for the next release on murmur records, featuring remixes from Manchester’s finest Tom Demac and Dial man Efdemin.
Deep, dark and sultry, ‘You Are’ captures the soul with its pumping percussion, raw kicks, warping synths and fluid ambience. Elevating it a step above the rest is the magnetic vocal powerfully sung and seductively whispered by Fingers Inc. hero Robert Owens. Arguably the most treasured voice in dance music history, Hugo explained how he came to collaborate with such an icon…‘Ever since I co-promoted Robert’s residency night at Egg from 2005-2007 we have remained good friends and kept in touch. I stopped promoting in 2007, as I wanted to focus more time on production. Once ‘You are’ was completed I thought it would be a suitable track for him to sing over so sent him a copy and asked if he would do it, which he agreed to.’
Berlin producer Efdemin aka Phillip Sollmann provides the A-side with his remix, a dreamy and atmospheric take on the original, effortlessly rolling along with intricate percussion and smooth synth patterns. Hidden beneath the euphoric textures is a pulsating energy and sharp kick keeping this geared to the dance floor. No stranger in the murmur camp, Tom Demac provides the remix on the B-side. Packed full of groove and with an effective play on the vocal, this stomper will destroy any dance floor in its path.
Originally born in New Zealand, Hugo Barritt has been living in London since 1999 embellishing the city as a playground for exploring his musical passions. During his time living in London, Hugo has co-promoted Robert Owens’ residency ´Journeys´ and played at the most influential underground parties the city had to offer such as Lo kee, Retox and The Players at AKA. During the last few years Hugo has spent his time committed to the studio with impressive outcomes beginning to show with a release on Vitalik Recordings ´We Love Space 2011´ compilation, the forthcoming ‘Merkaba EP’ and now this massive release on murmur records. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from Hugo Barritt.
