The Make Or Break EP flawlessly exhibits the unique genre crossing production style of Maxxi Soundsystem proving why London based Needwant are immensely pleased to have him onboard for the next release on the label. An infusion of genres old and new, funky and deep, this is a showcase of Maxxi Soundsystem at his absolute best…
Catchy classic vocals, powerful house grooves and an infusion of genres ranging from vintage New York and Chicago to garage and modern day disco with RnB influences sum up Maxxi Soundsystem’s first EP on Needwant. Title track ‘Make Or Break’ sweeps in with dramatic soaring synths over a subtle classic house vocal, while warbling strings delve through the housey groove. Proving that genre holds no boundaries for the young producer the track takes a real turn with a big bouncing garage bass line, which drives the track while still holding on to its housey roots.
Next up ‘There’s No Love’ is a joyous ride of uplifting synth structures over a punchy bass that grumbles in the moody depths. The vocal hooks sit comfortably between classic house and funked up RnB, providing a unique twist, Maxxi Soundsystem style. Taking a darker direction and rounding off this intensely satisfying package ‘Never Stop’ is a moody mash up of bouncing beats, bleeps, and electro-tinged synth disco with an injection of spacey funk to set the vibe. Packed full of groove as perfect dance floor material, the prominent claps, RnB style vocal and rolling bass are sure to keep you locked in the groove.
The Brighton based producer has been riding a wave of success since his 2010 club hit ‘Critisize’ was released on Kojak Giant Sounds, which received prolific support from Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 and featured in Tim Sweeny’s Beats In Space Best of 2010. Also signed by New York’s Nervous Records new imprint Nürvous and releasing a string of high profile remixes including those of 2 Bears and Hercules and Love Affair, Maxxi Soundsystem is proving to be an unstoppable force. Next year looks set to be bigger still with an upcoming release on Jamie Jones’ Hot Waves and remix for Bonar Bradberry on Needwant.
