Soulade is emerging as one of the compelling forces behind the esteemed Vitalik label, delivering two incredibly slick remixes of Mark Henning’s ‘Moors’, and releasing prime cut ‘Thinking Of You’ on the ‘We Love Vitalik’ compilation this summer. Now with this, his first full debut EP, Soulade guides the listener through a winding maze of bass laden, fractured yet melodic soundscapes. Dachshund and rising producer Tom Demac step up to the mark with exceptional interpretations of the original works.
Opening track ‘Fora a Da Chuva’ sets the tone for Soulade’s textured grooves. Gentle percussion sits over a deeply atmospheric sound bed, emotive and enthralling it draws the listener into its simple but hypnotic bassline.
‘Somewhere Sunday’ embraces loose percussion, live drums and rolling beats. Billie Hoilday´s haunting vocals contrasting against the stark open hats and hissing analogue bass. Geneva born Dachshund takes on ‘Somewhere Sunday’ in the remix, deploying his trademark tight rhythmic house grooves, creating a more uptempo and floor friendly rendering of the original.
‘Last Ship From Atlantis’ exudes old school undertones with its hardcore-esque baseline and Italo house keys. Its time signature changes, reverberating percussion and massive bass line culminating into low end crescendos. Hypercolour/ murmur favourite and Welsh native Tom Demac totally reworks the track on his analogue machinery and delivers what can only described as an absolute bomb. Infusing more vocals, sax and that devastating baseline his ‘Analord’ remix (an Aphex Twin reference in case you were wondering) equates to total dance floor destruction.
